Google Android HTC T-Mobile G1: A users review

Google Android HTC T-Mobile G1: A users reviewAndrew R Hickey, over at The Channel Wire, has got himself the Google Android T-Mobile G1 phone, he couldn’t resist, and was of the opinion it was about time to get rid of his BlackBerry Pearl. So here is a brief rundown of what he thinks of his new T-Mobile G1.

Hickey found the G1 to be a little heavy and bulky, but believes its worth this for the added QWERTY that slides smoothly. The web browser in Hickey’s words “is great” and nearly as good as the Apple iPhone’s. Viewing websites, searches and posting comments was all achieved at “lightening speeds.”

Hickey’s Gmail account worked seamlessly sending and receiving emails, while the G1 also works with other IMAP and POP3 email accounts; however it does lack integration with Microsoft Exchange mail, and he can’t seem to get Hotmail to work.

Overall, Hickey says the G1 does take some getting used to, but so far is enjoying his first experience with the T-Mobile G1.

Will Symbian OS and S60 really be open source?

Will Symbian OS and S60 really be open source?Lee Williams is the new head of the Symbian Foundation, Williams (the guy in the picture) is from Nokia, who of course say they want Symbian OS and S60 to be open source. While the United States is making a market for developers, questions over the Symbian Foundation’s independence are beginning to surface.

Questions like is Williams too close to Nokia? Will Nokia really make Symbian OS and S60 open? Williams’s response to these was he had given up any equity or interests in Nokia and had always operated independently, and said: “I was only at Nokia for two years. I haven’t been drinking the Kool-Aid for that long.”

The main question is, to what degree will an open source system be released? Open source or not, developers simply want the tool to develop their applications and get them to the market, and this is where Symbian has a fair bit of work to do, and developer’s believe that developing for Symbian is “Challenging.”

Are we becoming an Apple iPhone orientated culture?

Are we becoming an Apple iPhone orientated culture? The Apple iPhone has become the technology symbol of todays “in crowd” but are these iPhoners stepping into the world of over-arrogance and excess? Proud iPhoner’s are showing off their Apple iPhones too excess with “my apps are cooler than your apps” contests and email footers with “sent from my iPhone.”

It’s not that surprising, they are proud to own the famous iPhone 3G, and see themselves as the “alpha dogs” of the mobile community. But the Apple iPhone’s impact is far greater than the “haves” and “have nots” culture because the iPhone actually changes how people interact with each other and their surroundings.

But it’s not just the Apple iPhone; with more and more iPhone-type handsets hitting the streets such as the T-Mobile G1 and the BlackBerry Storm, the idea of a siloed culture is neither far off nor far fetched.

T-Mobile Google G1 phone launch: frenzy or flop?

T-Mobile Google G1 phone launch: frenzy or flop?I can see them now, thousands of people queuing waiting for the long anticipated T-Mobile Google G1, am I dreaming? Well, yes as it really was not like that yesterday, they were not flocking in their thousands to get their hands on the Google G1, like the Apple iPhone fans did, in-fact there was no more than 20 people standing outside any shop and in some staff didn’t even have customers on opening, We wonder how many of you actually went to get a Google G1, did you?

Ok, in Google G1’s defense they did have a huge amount of people who had pre-ordered the android device, whereas Apple did not give their customers the chance to pre-order the iPhone. What a fantastic bit of marketing, with tabloids everywhere showing people outside the Apple Store, some for several days so they could be first in-line for the precious iPhone, causing complete iPhone frenzy.

We wonder which of the smartphones will shine over the Christmas period and indeed Q4. Will the iPhone remain the king? Or will the Google G1 take the crown? one thing is for sure it’s going to be a extremely competitive race with the BlackBerry Storm, the Nokia 5800, the Palm Treo and a few other competitors like the HP iPAQ data messenger all adding to the smartphone market.

We believe that 2009 is going to be a very exciting year for the smartphone market. With market leaders such as Research in Motion (RIM), Nokia and Apple all fighting for the top spot, we wonder what smartphone our readers think will be crowd king of the smartphones?

Apple iPhone vs. Xperia X1 for Christmas cash at O2

Apple iPhone vs. Xperia X1 for Christmas cash at O2It is looking like O2 are going to set the Sony Ericsson flagship Xperia X1 up against the Apple iPhone to battle it out for the Christmas market, going head to head on price at O2 retail stores.

O2 has announced the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will have a price tag of £100 with a £35 per month contract, which indicates O2’s desire to move away from offering premium mobile phones for free.

However, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will be offered for free on a £75 per month contract, (so not moving away from, more like moving to more expensive tariffs). The Carphone Warehouse however will have the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 for free on a £45 per month tariff.

Would you buy N70 Mini Video Projector iPhone clone?

Would you buy N70 Mini Video Projector iPhone clone?<br />UOk, maybe its time to drag out that old mobile handset from your pocket and dispose of it gracefully via smashing it against the wall, and then you can say you have a valid excuse to go purchase the N70 mobile phone.

The N70 is from Lanye, or something like that in China, anyway the N70 is a candy-bar style mobile phone that packs a 2.4 inch display, a touch of dual-band GSM goodness, Bluetooth 2.0, and…now this is the best bit…a built-in projector.

Furthermore, the N70 incorporates an interface which is almost an identical clone of the Apple iPhone along with the added bonus of MMS and voice recording. The N70 looks great, and is available for import at a nice comfortable price of $345.00.

Helping all Sidekick Users: Themes is what you needNow I just know all you T-Mobile Sidekick owners out there are trying to find a way to trade your current Sidekick for some juicy G1 goodness, and there are many reasons why you should keep your Sidekick, but that G1 still keeps calling you.

But don’t worry Sidekickers, all is not lost for CubanitaStylezz, a theme designer has laboured over time to craft a few new themes for your T-mobile Sidekick LX, Sidekick Slide and so on, and these new themes will make the proud Sidekick owner feel like they possess a true blue T-Mobile Android toting G1.

Well, almost, not that the Sidekick will actually have android on it, but it will look like it does so you can go round feeling happy that you don’t own a G1.
